چکیده

End-to-end congestion control mechanisms help utilize network resources more optimally because they inherently cooperate with the congestion control mechanisms inside the network. Recent research has shown that coordinating congestion control strategies between flows can improve the performance of the group of flows as a whole. An important aspect of such congestion management is identifying flows to be grouped together and the coordinated congestion technique to be adopted for the group. Currently Dows between the same end systems are grouped togther. Here, we attempt to provide an efficient, dynamic grouping mechanism for a set of flows originating from an end system on the basis of shared points of congestion. We use a correlation of the TCP round trip times (RTTs) to provide an estimate of the shared points of congestion.

On Efficient On-Line Grouping of Flows with Shared Bottlenecks at Loaded Servers

We design an efficient on-line approach, FlowMate, for partitioning flows at a busy server into flow groups that share bottlenecks. These groups are periodically input to congestion coordination, aggregation, load balancing, admission control, or pricing modules. FlowMate uses inband packet delay measurements to the receivers to determine shared bottlenecks among flows. Packet delay information...

Performance analysis of TCP in an IP network using fluid-flow models

There is a strong demand for Quality of Service (QoS) in the internet. One key element of QoS is traffic management during congestion. Congestion occurs when aggregate load exceeds the capacity on bottleneck link. In this paper, congestion is caused by heterogeneous traffic. A queue builds up in the router servicing the bottleneck link. We advocate RED (random early detection) as AQM (active qu...

Fuzzy Logic-Based Round Trip Time Scaling and Scheduling in High Speed TCP Stacks

Network management and control is a complex problem that requires intelligent, control methodologies to obtain satisfactory performance. Round trip time (RTT) scaling mechanism has been introduced for changing congestion window and to perform congestion control satisfactorily in all circumstances. This paper presents a fuzzy RTT scaling (FRTTS) scheme that performs RTT scaling and RTT schedulin...

A Memory-Based Approach for a TCP-Friendly Traffic Conditioner in DiffServ Networks

Markers, one of the building blocks of a traffic conditioner play a major role for resource allocation in a DiffServ network. Recently, there has been a considerable research interest in designing intelligent markers, tailored for TCP traffic. The TCP dynamics make the design of a marker difficult in many respects. We list out the issues related to designing a TCPfriendly marker and propose an ...

A study of fairness among heterogeneous TCP variants over 10 Gbps high-speed optical networks

Several high-speed TCP variants are adopted by end users and therefore, heterogeneous congestion control has become the characteristic of newly emerging high-speed optical networks. In contrast to homogeneous TCP flows, fairness among heterogeneous TCP flows now depends on router parameters such as queue management scheme and buffer size. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study of...
